Influencers and bloggers are visiting countries and cities around the world to take selfies and post on social, however, many don’t immerse themselves in the culture or learn anything while they are there. This is then repeated by everyone else who wants to travel for the sake of just being there.

Expedia will take travel back to its roots by creating a scavenger hunt providing value to learning about culture and history.

Problem:

Instagram has made travel very basic through travel bloggers who barley provide any real substance on the locations. Influencers are visiting places around the world to take selfies and post on social, however, they don’t immerse themselves in the culture or learn anything while they are there. Expedia wants to teach people how to travel again.

Strategy: 

When traveling, tourists become fascinated with the country through its history, talking to the locals, finding the best restaurants, activities and hidden gems no one really knows about. Expedia wants to give that rush of adrenaline and wonder as they travel.

Finding the Clues
As people visit museums, restaurants, and other locations, they will be handed items to join the scavenger hunt. Expedia will give the opportunity for these people to visit different countries and find out the answers to these questions.

Block 4

Social 
The social side of the campaign will be to send out reminders and bring attention to new releases of ads such as the bookmarks, menus and etc. Instagram will also serve as the primary medium to share stories of people who have won the free-trip and share their stories.
